Abstract: Urban heat island effect is one of the major issues and to be addressed in order to achieve sustainability. Human population in the cities has been increasing tremendously. As a result, natural areas are turned into buildings, roads etc. Scholars from various disciplines are now focused on the causes of Urban Heat Island effect and mitigation strategies. Considering the areas covered by the road pavements in the cities, its share on Urban Heat Island Effect is indisputable. Within the scope of this study a sample area was selected and modelled by utilizing various pavement materials. These areas have been investigated in terms of temperature, reflectance, view factor. The results are promising and likely to change the common beliefs. Pavements with higher albedos are helpful to reduce heat island effect of the non-naturalmaterials in the environments. The temperature difference can be 0.5 degrees C to 2 degrees C.
