An Investigation on Usage of Magmatic Rocks in Ankara-Polatli Region as Aggregates
Abstract
This paper aims to determine the properties of magmatic rocks in Ankara-Polatli region as well as investigate their usage as aggregates for highway and railway infrastructures. The laboratory tests were conducted on the samples collected from the study area to determine unit weight, water absorption, amount of organic matter, abrasion rate and frost resistance. The laboratory results in terms of Los Angeles, Micro-Deval, sodium and magnesium frost loss, permeability and water absorption are presented and discussed. The test results concluded that the salt-abrasion resistance of the samples in Hacitugrul region was less than those in Beycegiz and Sabanozu regions. However, Los Angeles test results demonstrated that the samples obtained from Hacitugrul region were more resistant than those in Beycegiz and Sabanozu. Moreover, the test results were compared with standards and the findings confirmed that samples collected from the study area met the requirements established in standards.
