    An Analytical Overview of Futuristic Strategies in the Practice of Interdisciplinary Architecture Education

    Architectural education is a universal discipline that requires an artistic, technical, and holistic perspective. It is a field of science and art that focuses on problem-solving and spatial creativity. As in all fields of science and art, the boundaries and scope of the field of architecture cannot be drawn. Its structure is so broad that it cannot be limited to a single discipline, and at the same time, it is flexible enough to make room for itself in every discipline. In this respect, even the concept of interdisciplinary is insufficient to coincide with the discipline of architecture as it describes a certain cross-section, and it becomes important what the disciplines that include architecture are and what the sentences of architecture can be in areas other than known disciplines. The headings that can be addressed separately are defined under the title "interdisciplinary," and the concept continues to exist as an unexamined area in the flexible and variable structure of architecture without being deepened enough. What is important is to define well which discipline influences to what extent and to define that all interdisciplinary subjects are areas that serve the main purpose of problem-solving and spatial creativity, to preserve the core balance of architecture without getting lost in the vast universe. The study aims to make an analytical look at architectural education, which is the environment where the concept of interdisciplinary in architectural practice is given and the boundaries are first taught. In this way, new expansions and questions are expected to arise in architectural education. From an analytical perspective, the issue of balancing architectural education and industry will be discussed using the PESTEL analysis method, which is a method used in strategic planning and especially in the field of business administration.

    Cognitive Mapping and Space Syntax Analysis of Universal Design Principles: the Case of the Üsküdar Barrier-Free Life Center.

    The purpose of this research was to examine universal design concepts and principles. Within the scope of the research, the spatial and structural features of the Istanbul-Üsküdar Barrier-Free Life Center were examined. The space syntax analysis method was applied in order to access the numerical data of the syntactic analysis of the space, and cognitive mapping analysis was performed in order to reflect the spaces formed in the minds of individuals in the cognitive maps of the space on the drawings. The participants and the sample were selected among individuals who use this place via the random sampling method. As a result of this research, the design features of a space used by disabled and non-disabled individuals, design criteria, syntagmatic features of the space, and cognitive features of the space were determined, and inferences that can serve as examples for the spaces to be built in the future were presented.

    Evaluation of Interior Architecture Education Research in the Web of Science Database: Bibliometric and Science Mapping Analysis

    The aim of study is a bibliometric analysis of the publications in the Web of Science database related to interior design education. The research was carried out between 10 January and 12 February 2023. Searches in the TIT-ABS-KEY field of WOS search engine. "Interior architecture education" (Topic) OR "interior architecture education*” (Topic) OR “interior design education” (Topic) OR "interior design education*” (Topic) generating 125 publications on the subject. Most of these were “Proceeding Paper” with 66 publications and in the top position of “Educational Research” with 65 publications; the “Architecture” category came in second with 26 publications. In addition, “Procedia Social and Behavioral Sciences” resulted in 25 publications and the “Journal of Interior Design” in 12 publications. Among the WOS indexes, “CPCI-SSH” contains 62 publications. The words most frequently used by authors are interior architecture education, interior architecture, design studio, education, sustainability, design, creativity, design thinking, design processes, and computer-aided design.

    Evrensel Tasarım İlkelerinin Bilişsel ve Dizimsel Analizi: Üsküdar Engelsiz Yaşam Merkezi Örneği

    Bu araştırmanın amacı, evrensel tasarım kavramları ve ilkeleri incelenerek Üsküdar Engelsiz Yaşam Merkezi örneği üzerinden açıklanmaya çalışılacaktır. Araştırma kapsamında Üsküdar Engelsiz Yaşam Merkezi yapısal, mekânsal ve iç mekân özellikleri incelemektir. Bu araştırmada uygulanan yöntem mekânın dizimsel analizinin sayısal verilerine ulaşabilmek için mekân dizim analizi (space syntax) ve mekânın bilişsel haritalarında bireylerin zihinlerinde oluşan mekânların çizime yansıtılması amacıyla bilişsel haritalama analizi (cogntive mapping analysis) yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın evrenini Üsküdar Yaşam Merkezi ve örneklemi ise bu mekânı kullanan (engelli veya engelsiz) bireyler arasından rastgele örnekleme yöntemiyle seçilmiştir. Bu araştırma sonucunda engelli ve engelsiz bireylerin kullandıkları bir mekânın tasarım özellikleri, tasarım kriterleri, mekânın dizimsel özellikleri ve mekânın bilişsel özellikleri tespit edilerek gelecekte yapılacak olan mekânlar için örnek teşkil edebilecek çıkarımlar ortaya koymaktadır.
