In addition to the high tensile and compressive strength of the steel, its very good earthquake resistance has recently increased the use of light steel structures. However, corrosion and fire effect are the most important disadvantages of steel. These two effects cause the strength of steel to drop significantly. This article presents the results of an experimental study to examine the tensile behavior of mild steel element exposed to corrosion. For this purpose, tensile tests were carried out on corroded steel elements to examine the effect of corrosion damage on tensile behavior. In this study, 0.80 mm and 1.00 mm thick light steel plates are used. The specimens produced were subjected to an axial tensile test after being corroded by 10% and 20% by mass. The specimens subjected to axial tensile test were evaluated in terms of ductility and strength. As a result of the evaluations made; It was observed that there was a decrease of 18.9% in yield strength, 18.3% in tensile strength and 64.2% in ultimate forcing in samples that were eroded by 10% by mass. Similarly, 33.4% decrease in yield strength, 35% decrease in tensile strength and 80.1% decrease in ultimate stress were observed in samples eroded with 20% mass. According to the results, it was concluded that corrosion in light steel elements significantly reduced both the strength and ductility of the elements.en_US
