Abstract: KOP Region covers 8 provinces such as Konya, Aksaray, Karaman, Niğde, Kırıkkale, Kırşehir, Nevşehir and Yozgat in Central Anatolia. The population of the region is over 4 million and almost half of them live in mountainous / rural areas where income is very limited. SÜKOP Selçuk University Ornamenal Stone Processsing, Application and Education Atelier project has been implemented by protocol signed between the Presidency of Konya Plain Project Regional Development Administration (KOP-BKİ) and Selçuk University Rectorate in 2015. SÜKOP Gemstone Atelier was established in order to generate additional income by producing the gemstone of citizens living in mountainous-rural areas in the KOP region within the scope of the project; "Increasing the People's Income Level by Expanding Non-Farm Activities in the KOP Region" in the KOP Action Plan. Selcuk University's Gemstone Research and Application Center was officially established with the regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 29 October 2016 and numbered 29872, following the start of the activities of SÜKOP Gemstone Atelier. The purpose of the establishment of the Selcuk University's Gemstone Research and Application Center; “In to continue the theoretical and practical studies of the studies to be carried out in the field of ornamental stones and gemstone processing, to give training, to find solutions to problems, to provide consultancy services, to conduct scientific and technical studies and meetings.” Semi-precious stone processing education were given for the citizens in the mountainous/rural areas in the off-season periods in accordance with the purpose of the establishment of the project. Produced these gemstones were used for jewelry such as earrings, rings, bracelets, necklace, brooches, key chain, rosary and desktop ornaments to provide additional income. Training are including basic information required for the processing of gemstones, cleaning, cutting, slicing, etching / shaping, polishing, drilling and jewelry production issues. In this context, in 2016, Selcuk University Gemstone Processing, Application, Research and Education Atelier was established in Selçuk University Campus, and then, basic gemstone processing trainings and production ateliers were started for the mountainous districts in the region. The first production workshop was established in 2016 in Taşkent (Konya), the second in 2017 in Ermenek (Karaman) and the third in 2016 in Doganhisar (Konya). Basic gemstone training was given to about 150 citizens mostly in the districts where the workshops were established and mostly women as well as living in different regions. In addition, are given gemstone training for Selcuk University Geological Engineering, as well as the Faculty of Arts and Design, Faculty of Fine Arts, Vocational School of Technical Sciences and other interested undergraduate and graduate students and citizens. With the project, the non-existent gemstone education, the production of jewellery from natural stones and a new branch of business have been revealed in the KOP region, which covers a significant part of Central Anatolia. The project was welcomed with greatly interest in other regions and technical support is given to the surplus education and production workshops in other regions it was planned to be established recently in Diyarbakır, Bayburt, Mersin etc. As a result, the art of natural stone processing, which has always been important from the Çatalhöyük in the Paleolithic period up to the present, has been revitalized
