Abstract
One of the most effective approaches to renewable energy generation is the efficient conversion of photons into electrical energy by employing environmentally sustainable materials. Among inorganic semiconductor particles, chalcogenide-based materials have emerged as promising candidates for optoelectronic applications owing to their suitable band gaps for photovoltaic (PV) devices, low cost, strong light-harvesting capability, long carrier lifetimes, chemical stability, and environmentally benign nature. In this thesis, quaternary semiconductor nanostructures of Cu₂XSnS₄ (X: Co, Ni, Mn) were successfully synthesized via the hot-injection method, which is considered to be relatively facile and rapid compared to many other synthetic routes, while enabling control over their phase and morphology. The optimized materials were employed as newly designed inorganic hole transport layers (HTLs) in perovskite solar cells, replacing the conventional organic counterparts PEDOT:PSS and PTAA, to enhance both power conversion efficiency and device stability. Inorganic HTLs possessing advantageous characteristics such as favorable energy levels and high carrier mobility not only facilitate efficient charge transfer but also significantly improve the stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) under ambient conditions. The utilization of low-cost materials that simultaneously address stability issues highlights the significance of this thesis. Furthermore, the findings underscore the critical role of cation–anion interactions in enhancing device stability and emphasize the importance of developing innovative, cost-effective, and efficient inorganic HTL materials for the commercial advancement of perovskite solar cells.
