Abstract
Equipment maintenance is one of the essential activities required for companies to continue producing or serving healthily. However, many companies do not pay sufficient attention to maintenance activities. As a result of insufficient or non-performing maintenance activities, situations such as failure to produce quality products, equipment breakdowns, and production taking longer than expected may be observed. To avoid problems like these, from the early 1950s to 1971, preventive maintenance activities have been viral. However, in 1971, total productive maintenance, aiming for zero stop, zero defect, and zero breakdowns emerged with the development of preventive maintenance techniques by the president of the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. In this book chapter, how TPM tools are used is demonstrated with the digital lean software of Digitoverse, a software and consultancy company. It was explained how TPM tools were affected by the technological developments under Industry 4.0, which emerged with the increasingly competitive environment and cost pressures. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Turan Paksoy and Muhammet Deveci; individual chapters, the contributors.
