Article Citation - WoS: 17Citation - Scopus: 29A Novel Hybrid Decision-Making Framework for Measuring Industry 4.0-Driven Circular Economy Performance for Textile Industry(John Wiley and Sons Ltd, 2024-07-30) Ali, S.S.; Torgul, B.; Paksoy, T.; Luthra, S.; Kayikci, Y.The sustainability strategy focuses on conscious production and consumption, with the circular economy (CE) as an innovative approach to maximize resource value and minimize waste. Industry 4.0 technologies like AI, robotics, and blockchain play a significant role in enhancing the competitiveness of businesses pursuing the CE. These advanced technologies help organizations achieve their sustainability goals, particularly within the CE framework. The study analyses how Industry 4.0-driven CE practices impact sustainable business performance, using the Indian textile industry as a case study. The researchers developed a three-stage hybrid decision-making framework, integrating various methods to assess sustainable performance. A novel three-stage hybrid decision-making framework was developed by integrating Kendall's agreement test (Kendall's W), fuzzy Delphi, best–worst method (BWM), full consistency method (FUCOM), and combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) methods. The findings highlight positive outcomes such as enhanced incentives, government support, greener logistics, and improved monitoring of emissions, waste, and pollution. However, there is room for further improvements to address market demand and increase the profitability of green products. © 2024 ERP Environment and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Book Part Citation - Scopus: 23A New Multi Objective Linear Programming Model for Lean and Green Supplier Selection With Fuzzy Topsis(Springer New York LLC, 2018-11-12) Torğul, Belkız; Paksoy, TuranSupplier selection is a critical task for the success of an organization. The goal in supplier selection is to select the “right” suppliers based on some criteria such as cost, quality and environmental performance. Lean thinking has been increasingly adopted among the suppliers to stay ahead of the competition by achieving faster delivery, higher quality and lower cost. On the other hand, governmental legislations put pressure on the companies to lower their environmental impact. Therefore, environmental impact of a supplier is as important as other criteria; i.e. cost, quality and faster delivery when evaluating the suppliers. Therefore, companies also adopt environmental management practices in supply chain management (referred to as green supply chain) to lower their environmental impact. In this context, lean and green supplier selection has attracted ever-growing attention recently, which is a multi-criteria decision-making problem that requires consideration of many qualitative and quantitative factors. Hence, this study presents an integrated approach for the selection of the appropriate suppliers in a supply chain, aiming to maximize lean and green value in a supply chain network, using fuzzy AHP-TOPSIS and fuzzy multi-objective linear programming. The applicability of the developed approach is demonstrated using a case study in Turkey. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.Book Part Fuzzy Decision-Making(CRC Press, 2023-01-04) Torğul, B.; Paksoy, T.In this chapter, the subject of the supplier selection problem using a fuzzy decision-making approach, judging by the impact of smart and sustainable operations, was studied. Nine smart and nine sustainable criteria were determined to evaluate five alternative suppliers and consider them as two distinct groups. The two-objective model developed for the solution of the problem tries to maximize the smartness and sustainability values of the supply separately while meeting the problem-specific constraints. The coefficients for the objective functions were obtained by evaluating the smart and sustainable maturity levels of the potential suppliers, and the aim was to purchase more from suitable suppliers according to the relative importance of the objectives. Then the developed multi-objective model was advanced fuzzy linear programming by benefitting from fuzzy decision-making to get the optimum solution to the problem. Afterward, different smart and sustainability weight pairs were determined considering the expectations of the decision-makers, and the results obtained from all scenarios were analyzed by applying the weighted additive method. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Turan Paksoy and Muhammet Deveci; individual chapters, the contributors.Article Citation - WoS: 2Multi-Level Competitive Closed Loop Supply Chain Network Design(Gazi Univ, 2024-02-29) Torgul, Belkız; Paksoy, TuranLimited natural resources and unconscious consumption have led to a substantial increase in the rate of processing waste material instead of raw materials in recent years and changed the dynamics of Supply Chain Management (SCM) by making the industrial environment more competitive. The interest in Closed Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) design and optimization is increased with great care being taken to reverse logistics in order to respond to customer pressures as well as environmental concerns associated with the increasing number of end-of-life products. CLSC has extensive literature and many models have been developed to optimize supply chain costs. Most of the literature deals with single supply chains and ignores existing competing supply chains. However, in today's competitive markets, supply chains are integrated with each other by several competitive companies and work together to gain more market share. In such an environment, there are different forms of competition within and between supply chains. In this context, the paper addresses the problem of design and optimization of distribution networks in multi-level competitive CLSC management consisting of two producers, a collection & recycling center and customers trying to improve sustainable consumption by increasing the willingness to return used products with some incentives for product recovery. In order to reach a consensus solution for decision makers who have a different purpose in CLSC management, four different Interactive Fuzzy Programming (IFP) approaches are used and the results are analyzed. Article Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Rule-Based Bwm Approach for Sustainable Supplier Selection(Konya Teknik Univ, 2022-06-01) Öztürk, Müslüm; Torğul, Belkız; Paksoy, TuranFuzzy logic is a theory based on human-specific approximate reasoning. Therefore, fuzzy logic applications can bring simple and more effective solutions to situations that classical methods cannot overcome. The type-1 fuzzy set is a set, which has a continuous (crisp) membership degree to which a membership degree between 0 and 1 is assigned, and is characterised by membership functions. Type-2 fuzzy sets, which have the power to express uncertainty better, are expressed by membership functions, where the membership degrees of each element belonging to that set also specify a fuzzy set. Therefore, type-2 fuzzy sets allow us to include the membership functions uncertainty in fuzzy set theory. Using expert knowledge and using sensitivity of human to reflect the level of the decision maker influence is expressed as a fuzzy rule based system. Recently, it has been seen that fuzzy rules are frequently used together with multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) methods. Again, combining fuzzy rules with type-2 fuzzy numbers is also found. In this study, the Best Worst Method (BWM), one of the MCDM methods, has been integrated with fuzzy rules based interval type-2. The developed hybrid method was defined as Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Rule-Based BWM (IT2 FRB BWM). The proposed hybrid method has an important place when there are alternatives with similar ranking positions. Thus, even if there is a small difference in each alternative, it will show the difference better (more sensitively). This makes the proposed hybrid method forceful and unique. The proposed approach has been applied to a sustainable supplier selection problem comparatively with the BWM. The results show that the IT2 FRB BWM approach is more successful in ordering alternatives than the classical BWM method. Yapılan duyarlılık analizi ile çiftçilerden yeterli arz sağlanması yoluyla daha kısa tedarik zinciri oluşturmanın işletmeye hem ekonomik hem de çevresel olarak katkı sağlayacağı sonucuna varılmıştırArticle Value of Information Management in Closed Loop Supply Chain With Blockchain Applications(2023-01-31) Torğul, Belkız; Paksoy, TuranPurpose: Rapidly developing information technology increases expectations for obtaining much more efficient structures by providing accurate, sufficient and secure information sharing in supply chains as well as in many other fields. Traceability is a critical element in supply chain management, especially in security-sensitive sectors such as food, medicine, etc. Blockchain is a decentralized record platform that provides traceability, transparency and security, and it shows promise in alleviating traditional supply chain management problems and making a positive contribution. This article aims to improve the relevant literature by revealing the level of impact of blockchain technology on supply chain management.Methodology: First of all, a traditional closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) network was designed and modeled. Then, the main model was developed by creating four more scenarios for different applications of the blockchain technology to the existing model and the application results were analyzed.Findings: This paper demonstrated the implementation of blockchain technology in forward and reverse flows activities coordination for effective and efficient supply chain management, and the resulting gains by developing appropriate models through explanatory scenarios. The implications showed that blockchain technology could significantly reduce supply chain costs.Originality: While blockchain technology is gaining attention, there are very few studies focused on its integration into the supply chain. Apart from the applications in the field of finance, the most important contribution and originality of the study is the application of the blockchain to CLSC from different aspects as partial, full, only forward flow and only reverse flow.Article Citation - WoS: 3Smart and Sustainable Supplier Selection Using Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Ahp(Gazi Univ, 2022) Torğul, Belkız; Paksoy, TuranGovernment regulations, customers' environmental awareness, quality of life-improving efforts and developments in the information and communication system have almost obliged organizations to consider smart and sustainable factors while evaluating their suppliers. Working with suitable suppliers in terms of technological, environmental and social aspects as well as economic aspects, will be the basis for smart and sustainable supply chains. An effective supplier selection running is also needed to continue the process in harmony. The issue of supplier selection is one of the multi-criteria decision- making problems that requires consideration of many qualitative and/or quantitative factors. In this study, Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method with interval type-2 fuzzy sets, which are more flexible and successful in reflecting uncertainty for fuzzy decision-making problems with contradictory criteria, was proposed to evaluate the overall performance of suppliers. In order to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method, an empirical study was conducted on the evaluation of material suppliers for an automotive manufacturer and a comparative scenario analysis was performed to investigate the effect of different criteria under different conditions.
