    Fire Scenarios-Based Analysis in Water Supply Network: Case Study Akyurt, Ankara

    Water is an important need to realize fundamental activities of people. With the growth of the settlements, the combined pipeline systems that distribute water brought from natural sources to settlements have become complicated. Damage to water networks due to natural disasters creates many problems. Computer programs are frequently used to examine the impact of disasters on water networks. The EPANET developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency is highly preferred for optimizing water networks, revealing behaviors under different scenarios and solving design problems. With the EPANET program, it is possible to observe hydraulic characteristics (flow rate, pressure, velocity etc.) easily under changing conditions. Akyurt district in Ankara, one of Turkey's crowded cities, has been chosen as the study area. In this study, 5 different fire scenarios were determined for the Akyurt district water network and the behavior of the system was investigated under these scenarios. The pressure and flow behaviors were evaluated under changing conditions in the water distribution network. The behaviors of common areas, public buildings and residential in terms of water transmission under fire scenarios were investigated.

    Temporal Analysis of Land Cover/Use Change in a Semi-Arid Basin With Modis Data

    With the increase in population, industrialization, agricultural activities and urbanization are increasing. In addition to this situation, when the effect of climate change is taken into account, the land cover changes quite rapidly. In this study, the change of land cover/use over time in Konya Closed Basin (KCB), which is a semiarid closed basin, was investigated. Land cover/use data were obtained from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS). The International Geosphere-Biosphere Program (IGBP) land cover classification scheme was preferred. The study was carried out for the period 2001-2018. The spatial resolution of the data provided annually is 500 m. Land cover/use data were cut according to KCB boundaries. Temporal analysis was performed by calculating the total area of each class belonging to the IGBP classification within the KCB for the 2001-2018 period. According to the results, the classes with the most area in the KCB are grasslands and croplands. Grasslands have decreased significantly over time, while croplands have increased.

    Analysis of Seasonal Rainfall Variability With Innovative Graphical Methods of Konya Closed Basin, Türkiye

    This study looked into the variability of seasonal rainfall in the semi-arid Konya Closed Basin (KCB), a water-limited region with high exploitation demand for water resources due to agricultural activities. In the study, seasonal precipitation data of eleven stations in the basin for the period 1971–2020 were used and analyzed with four trend methods (Şen-ITA, CWTSD, IPTA, and TPSC). Visual and statistical findings from the analyses showed generally increasing trends in winter and summer precipitation and decreasing trends in spring precipitation in the basin. In autumn precipitation, according to Şen-ITA, there is an increasing trend in seven stations and a decreasing trend in four stations, while according to CWTSD, there is an increasing trend in six stations and a decreasing trend in five stations. Based on the arithmetic mean IPTA graphs, Winter-Spring transitions in all stations occur from a rising trend region to a falling trend region, but Spring-Summer transitions take the reverse direction. In the standard deviation IPTA graphs, similar transitions in the trend regions are predominant. To the mean and standard deviation TPSC graphs, most of the stations generally have similar behavior. Spring-Summer transition arrows are dominant in Zone III, while Summer-Autumn and Autumn-Winter transitions are dominant in Zone I. Although Winter-Spring transitions are variable, they are more intense in Zone I and III. CWTSD and Şen-ITA methods are also consistent with the results obtained from IPTA graphs, both visually and numerically. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

    Ekstrem yağışların zamansal eğilim analizi: Konya Kapalı Havzası örneği

    Aşırı iklim olaylarının sıklığı ve yoğunluğundaki değişiklikler önemli sosyal, ekonomik ve çevresel sorunlara neden olmaktadır. Özellikle, iklim değişikliğinin ekstrem yağışlar üzerindeki etkilerini araştırmak çok önemlidir. Son yıllarda birçok araştırmacı tarafından küresel, bölgesel ve yerel ölçekte ekstrem yağışların mekansal ve zamansal değişimi araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye'de Konya Kapalı Havzası’nda bulunan 4 meteoroloji istasyonunun (Konya, Karaman, Aksaray, Niğde)ekstrem yağışlarının zamansal değişimi araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, Mann-Kendall (MK), Spearman’s Rho ve Innovative Şen Trend testleri kullanılmıştır. Trend yöntemlerinin sonuçlarına göre Aksaray, Karaman ve Niğde meteoroloji istasyonlarında ekstrem yağış verileri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olmayan azalma, Konya meteoroloji istasyonunda ise anlamlı olmayan artış eğilimleri elde edilmiştir.

    The Determination of Çarşamba River Water Budget With Swat in Konya Closed Basin, Turkey

    Hydrological models are frequently used in the development of strategies for water resources management. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), which is a physically based and semi-dispersed model, provides very successful results in the examination of hydrological events, development of sediment and water quality models. The creation of the water budget in water potential determination studies provides important comments about the study area. The Çarşamba River, located in the Konya Closed Basin, was designated as the study area. The establishment of the hydrological model of the Çarşamba Çayı, which contributes to meet the agricultural irrigation needs, is necessary to determine the water potential of the study area. In this study, the water budget was evaluated for the headwater of Çarşamba River during the period of 2006-2015. The hydrological model of the study area was constructed by using the SWAT model. At the stage of development of the hydrological model, hydrological and meteorological data were obtained from Seydişehir and Hadim meteorological observation stations and D16A115 flow observation station. The evapotranspiration required for water budget calculations was determined using the Penman Monteith method. In the evaluation of the success of the SWAT model, the coefficient of determination (R2 ), Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency Coefficient (NSE) and percentage of bias (PBIAS) performance criteria were used. SWAT-CUP was used for the calibration and validation of the SWAT model. According to the results of the study, a negative change was observed in storage at the end of 2008 and 2013. However, there have been positive changes in storage of the study area in other years. In annual total precipitation, the highest value was obtained in 2009 and the lowest value was obtained in 2013. When the evapotranspiration parameter was examined, the highest values were observed in the years 2011 and 2012.

    Temporal Trends of Annual and Seasonal Precipitation Concentration Index

    Global warming and climate change have significant effects on precipitation regimes. As a result, natural disasters such as drought and flood occur in our country as in many parts of the world. As a consequence of climate change, a significant portion of the total annual precipitation falling in an area can fall in just a few days, causing rainfall erosivity and flooding in the relevant areas. These climatic events cause loss of life and property in various regions, but also cause negative effects on agriculture and water resources. Climate change and global warming also cause a great decrease in water resources. The decrease in water resources reaches dimensions that prevent sustainable life as well as environmental impact. Global warming, which directly and indirectly affects water resources, increases the importance of water and water resources day by day. Precipitation, which is one of the meteorological events most affected by climate change, has the most important role in recharging water resources. In this study, monthly total precipitation data for the period 1970-2019 of Adana station (Station No: 17351) located in the Seyhan Basin were used. Firstly, the precipitation concentration index values of the precipitation data used were calculated on the seasonal and annual scales. In addition, the temporal trend of both monthly and annual precipitation and the calculated annual and seasonal precipitation concentration index values of the precipitation data in the examined period were examined. The temporal variation of monthly and annual precipitation values and annual and seasonal precipitation concentration index values were assigned using the Mann-Kendall trend method. The obtained trend analysis results were evaluated at the 95% significance level. The calculated annual precipitation concentration index values show 28% moderate, 56% irregular and 16% strong irregular precipitation distribution. While an insignificant increase was obtained in the annual precipitation concentration index values calculated in the examined time period, insignificant negative trends were obtained in the seasonal precipitation concentration index values of the four seasons.

    Trend Analysis of Extreme Precipitation Indices for 1964-2019 Period: a Case Study Beysehir Sub-Basin

    Changes in the severity of extreme climate events caused by global climate change adversely affect human life, nature, living things and the economy. One of the most important effects of climate change is the change in the precipitation regime. While the lack of precipitation in a region leads to drought and the heavy rain leads to flooding. Therefore, it is important to determine changes in the precipitation regime in order to protect soil and water resources. In this study, extreme precipitation indices (R1mm, R10mm, R20mm, RX1day, RX5day, CDD, CWD, SDII) were used to examine the temporal changes of precipitation in two meteorological stations (Beysehir and Seydisehir) located in the Beyşehir SubBasin in the Konya Closed Basin. Mann-Kendall (MK) and Innovative Şen Trend (IŞT) tests were used to analyze these indices. The obtained results show that there is no statistically significant trend in the extreme precipitation indices of the two stations in general. A significant decreasing trend was found in CDD index only for Beyşehir Station.

    Comparative of Statistical and Graphical Methods in Trend Analysis of Meteorological Parameters: a Case Study: Isparta Province, Turkey

    The effects of climate change are felt more and more every day, both on a global and regional scale. Evaluating the possible effects of climate change is of great importance in order to eliminate its potential negative effects. Therefore, it is very important to determine the effects of climate change on hydro-meteorological parameters. In this study, annual scale temporal changes of hydro-meteorologi cal parameters (precipitation, average relative humidity, average wind speed, average temperature and average vapor pressure) recorded in the Isparta Province meteorology station in the Antalya Basin in the period 1960-2019 were investigated. Three non-parametric methods, both graphical (Şen Innova tive Trend Analysis (Şen-ITA), Combination of Wilcoxon Test and Scatter Diagram (CWTSD)) and statistical (Mann-Kendall-MK) were used in trend analysis. The results obtained for the three methods used are consistent with each other. In the study, in which comments were made at the 0.05 significance level, significant negative trends in wind speed and significant positive trends in temperature and vapor pressure were obtained as a result of the analysis. Although there are no significant trends at the 0.05 sig nificance level in the other two parameters, there is a tendency to decrease in precipitation and increase in relative humidity in the examined period.

    Meteorolojik Verileri Kullanarak Aylık Tava Buharlaşmasını Tahmin Etmek için Yapay Zeka Metotlarının Uygulanması

    Bu çalışmada aylık açık yüzey buharlaşma tahmini amaçlanmıştır. Aylık buharlaşmayı tahmin etmek için, Türkiye'deki Konya Kapalı Havzası'nda Devlet Meteoroloji İşleri tarafından işletilen üç istasyonun (Konya, Karaman, Aksaray) toplam yağış, ortalama sıcaklık, minimum sıcaklık, maksimum sıcaklık, ortalama rüzgâr hızı, ortalama nispi nem, ortalama buhar basıncı ve ortalama atmosferik basınç meteorolojik verileri yapay zeka tekniklerine input olarak kullanılmıştır. İstasyonların aylık buharlaşma tahmini için, MLP-SCG, MLP-GDX, RBNN, GRNN, ANFIS, ?-DVR'yi içeren yapay zeka metodları kullanılmıştır. Sonuçlar, FAO-Penman-Monteith, Priestley-Taylor, Meyer ve Romanenko ampirik denklemlerinin sonuçlarıyla karşılaştırılmıştır. Geliştirilen modellerin uygulanabilirliğini değerlendirmek için, Nash-Sutcliffe etkinlik katsayısı (NSE), ortalama mutlak hata (MAE) ve karekök ortalama karesel hata (RMSE) kullanılmıştır. Üç istasyonun sonuçlarına göre, en başarılı yapay zeka metodu, Karaman ve Aksaray istasyonlarında ?-DVR, Konya istasyonunda ise MLP-SCG modeli olmuştur. Buharlaşma tahmini için, kullanılan yapay zeka metotları arasında en kötü performans, Karaman ve Konya istasyonunda GRNN, Aksaray istasyonunda ise ANFIS metotlarında elde edilmiştir. Kullanılan ampirik denklemlerin sonuçları, FAO-Penman-Monteith denkleminin üç istasyonda da diğer ampirik denklemlerden daha başarılı olduğunu göstermiştir. Uygulanan modeller karşılatırıldığında ise buharlaşma tahmini için yapay zeka metotlarının ampirik denklemlere oranla daha başarılı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
