Ultrasonik işlemin düşük dereceli kömürün kolon flotasyonu üzerine etkisi
    (2023) Esmeli, K.

The Effect of Ultrasound Treatment on Oil Agglomeration of Barite
    (Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022-12-15) Eşmeli, K.
In this study, the effect of ultrasonic treatment on oil agglomeration of barite ore was investigated. The ultrasound process not only improved the agglomeration efficiency of barite when applied as a pretreatment in the process of oil agglomeration of barite, but also reduced the consumption of oleate and kerosene. On the other hand, the use of only the ultrasonic process, in other words, its use at the agglomeration stage, negatively affected the agglomeration recovery. The power of ultrasound and the time of treatment were also important parameters affecting the agglomeration process of barite, and more successful agglomeration was achieved with short-term ultrasound pretreatment at a low power value (60 W, 120 sec). In addition, depending on the oleate concentration, the ultrasound process further increased the zeta potential of the barite, and this increase showed that the oleate adsorption on the barite surface increased. Moreover, higher contact angle values were obtained with ultrasound than the experiments without ultrasound at the same conditions. However, increasing the power of ultrasound and the time of treatment not only reduced the agglomeration efficiency, but also reduced the contact angle values of the barite. As a result, while the agglomeration recovery was 88.63% without ultrasound, it increased to 99.45% with ultrasonic pretreatment at the same conditions of 40 L/ton kerosene and 2 kg/ton oleate.

Enhancing Lignite Flotation Via Ultrasound: The Potential of Waste Motor Oil as an Eco-Friendly Collector
(Taylor & Francis inc, 2025-09-03) Esmeli, Kiraz
Waste motor oil (WMO) is considered one of the major pollutants in the automotive sector that poses significant risks to both environmental and human health. The present study investigated the potential application of WMO as a collector in the flotation of low-grade coal, supported by an ultrasonic pretreatment process. The results of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analyses revealed that waste motor oil (WMO) contains adsorbed hydrocarbons and oxygen-containing compounds on the surface of coal. When waste motor oil (WMO) was employed as a collector in coal flotation without any ultrasonic pretreatment, a clean coal recovery of 76.03% and an ash content of 13.21% were achieved at a dosage of 10 kg/t. These results indicate a significant performance improvement as compared to the conventional collector, diesel oil. Furthermore, the application of ultrasonic pretreatment prior to the use of WMO was found to enhance the process efficiency even further, reducing the ash content to 11.23% and increasing the clean coal recovery to 86.09%. Finally, ultrasonic treatment resulted in higher contact angle values for both WMO and diesel oil collectors, thereby further enhancing surface hydrophobicity. This effect was consistent with the observed improvements in combustible recovery and ash reduction. Taken together, the results of the present study indicate that WMO can be considered a sustainable alternative collector from both economic and environmental perspectives.

Ultrasonik İşlemin Linyit Süspansiyonunun Yağ Aglomerasyonu Üzerine Etkisi
    (Gumushane University, 2023) Eşmeli, K.
The use of ultrasonic process has mostly been investigated for the flotation process in coal fines, but its application to agglomeration with oils is extremely limited. Therefore, the purpose of present study is to investigate the influence of ultrasound treatment on the oil agglomeration of lignite using kerosene. Ultrasonic process was used in two different ways, at the pretreatment stage and at the agglomeration stage, and different results were found. The use of ultrasonic at the pretreatment stage reduced the ash content of the lignite suspension and increased the combustible recovery. On the other hand, the use of ultrasonic at the agglomeration stage adversely affected the agglomeration of lignite. Other factors affecting the oil agglomeration were the power of ultrasonic and the duration of process, and it was concluded that the agglomeration success was increased by the low power value and the short-term ultrasonic process. As a result, coal with an ash content of 26.02% was cleaned with an ash content of 10.03% and a combustible recovery of 79.06% by ultrasonic pretreatment under optimal conditions. © 2023, Gumushane University. Use of Ultrasonic Treatment as a Pre-Phase in the Shear Flocculation Process
(Elsevier, 2023-09-01) Özkan, Alper; Eşmeli, Kiraz
The use of ultrasonic energy has mostly been investigated for the flotation process in mineral processing, but its application to flocculation with collectors is extremely limited. Therefore, in this study, the effect of ultrasound in the shear flocculation technique, was intended to be revealed by using a celestite sample. The initial studies carried out for this purpose showed that in the absence of any reagent, the ultrasonication decreased the surface charge of the mineral, which caused the coagulation of the celestite suspension. In this scope, the short application of ultrasound at high power (i.e., 2 min batch regime and 150 W) provided a more positive effect. In the flocculation process carried out with collectors, the use of ultrasonic energy as a pre-phase for the suspension enhanced the aggregation of celestite particles. This result also fits well with the rise in the contact angle and the decrease in the zeta potential of the mineral due to the ultrasound. However, when the ultrasound was applied directly to the flocculation phase (ultrasound-induced flocculation only), the aggregation of celestite particles was affected adversely. Consequently, it can be said that in the shear flocculation process, the ultrasonic treatment should be used as a pre-phase for mineral suspensions. In this case, the flocculation of fine mineral particles in suspensions with surfactants can be improved by ultrasonic processing.

Ultrasonic-Assisted Oil Agglomeration of Calcite: Evaluation of Key Parameters
    (Springer Heidelberg, 2025-09-23) Esmeli, K.
The impact of ultrasound processing on the oil agglomeration behavior of calcite ore was explored in this study. It was indicated that the application of ultrasound as a preliminary treatment substantially improved the efficiency of agglomerate formation within the calcite suspension. Conversely, applying ultrasonic treatment throughout the entire process, in other words, its application at the agglomeration stage, had an adverse effect on agglomeration recovery. The application power value and time of the ultrasonic process have been found to be important parameters. The most effective recovery was achieved under a low-intensity ultrasonic pretreatment, specifically at 60 W for 180 s. Additionally, ultrasonic pretreatment led to an increase in the negative zeta potential of calcite particles according to pH changes in the presence of the collector. This observation showed that ultrasonic treatment promoted the adsorption of sodium oleate molecules onto the calcite surface. Furthermore, samples subjected to ultrasound pretreatment exhibited greater contact angle values compared to untreated samples, indicating enhanced hydrophobicity of calcite surfaces. Under identical experimental conditions, the recovery percentage of agglomerates increased from 90.22% without ultrasonic treatment to 96.45% with ultrasonic pretreatment. Consequently, ultrasonic pretreatment was found to have a beneficial influence on agglomeration recovery.

Improvement of Lignite Oil Agglomeration by Ultrasound Process Using Waste Engine Oil
    (Taylor & Francis Inc, 2022-09-16) Esmeli, K.
In the present study, it was aimed to clean fine coal with waste engine oil using the ultrasound process. The influence of ultrasound on the oil agglomeration of coal was determined using ultrasound at the pretreatment stage and at the agglomeration stage. In this context, the use of ultrasound at the pretreatment stage improved the oil agglomeration of coal, but the use of ultrasound at the agglomeration stage reduced the recovery of combustible matter. Also, the power of ultrasound and the time of treatment affected the success of agglomeration, and the optimal values were achieved at a power of 30 W of ultrasound and a treatment time of 3 min. In addition, the best ash content and combustible matter recovery values were obtained at the oil dosage value of 3 mL, but higher oil dosages adversely affected the success of agglomeration. Under optimal conditions, coal with an ash content of 15.02% was obtained with an efficiency of 61.29% in conventional experiments, while coal with an ash content of 9.65% with ultrasound pretreatment was obtained with an efficiency of 71.04%. These results show that ultrasound pretreatment is an effective method for the enrichment of fine particle coal.
