A Memetic Algorithm for Joint Production and Distribution Scheduling With Due Dates
(PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2020-04-01) Yağmur, Ece; Kesen, Saadettin Erhan
Integration between production and distribution phases in supply chain has attracted close attention of many researchers over the last decade as companies have to juggle these activities for survival in increasingly competitive market conditions. In this paper, we study a joint production and distribution problem where a single manufacturer has committed to processing jobs (i.e., customer orders) on permutation flow-shop environment and subsequently distributing them by a single capacitated vehicle. Customers locate geographically-dispersed points and place their orders with pre-determined due dates. Since a single vehicle is available, customer orders should be consolidated in order to reduce the total trip time spent by the vehicle but this may result in failing to meet some of customer orders before their due dates. The objective is therefore minimizing the total travelling time plus total tardiness. We first develop a mixed integer linear programming to formulate the problem. Due to intractability matters, mathematical formulation suffers to find optimal solutions even in moderate number of customers. Thus, we present a memetic algorithm (MA) to find good or near-optimal solutions in an acceptable amount of time. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the algorithm, we compare CPLEX results with that of the MA on a wide range of randomly generated test instances. Results indicate that MA is capable of finding solutions to optimality in a quite short time for most of the small-sized instances. For medium and large-sized instances, MA is still well-performing and yields better solutions as compared to CPLEX solutions found 3 h time limit.

Polimerik Güneş Hücrelerinde Ag Nanopartikül Katkılı Tio2 Tampon Tabakasının Kendiliğinden Organize Olan Tek Tabaka Moleküller (sam) ile Modifiye Edilmesi
(2020) Yurtdaş, Semih; Can, Mustafa; Karaman, Mustafa; Tozlu, Cem

Bi-Objective Optimization for Joint Production Scheduling and Distribution Problem With Sustainability
(SPRINGER INTERNATIONAL PUBLISHING AG, 2021) Yağmur, Ece; Kesen, Saadettin Erhan
This paper considers joint production and distribution planning problem with environmental factors. While the production phase of the problem consists of job shop production environment running under Just-In-Time (JIT) philosophy, the distribution phase involves a heterogeneous fleet of vehicles with regards to capacity and fuel consumption rate. Therefore, we tackle two well-known problems in Operations Research terminology which are called machine scheduling and vehicle routing problems. The joint problem is formulated as a bi-objective structure, the first of which is to minimize the maximum tardiness, the second of which aims to minimize the total amount of CO2 emitted by the vehicles. Orders are required to be consolidated to reduce the traveling time, distance, or cost. An increase in the vehicle capacity results in a higher possibility of consolidation, but in this case, the amount of CO2 emission that the vehicle emits into the air will also increase. Having shown that two objectives are conflicting in an illustrative example, we formulate the problem as amixed integer programming (MIP) formulation and use an Augmented Epsilon Constraint Method (AUGMECON) for solving the bi-objective model. On randomly generated test instances, the applicability of the MIP model through the use of AUGMECON is reported.

Integrated Production Scheduling and Vehicle Routing Problem With Energy Efficient Strategies: Mathematical Formulation and Metaheuristic Algorithms
(PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2024-03-01) Yağmur, Ece; Kesen, Saadettin Erhan
This paper addresses integrated production and distribution scheduling problem in which orders/jobs are undergone a single operation on any one of the identical machines in parallel and upon the completion of the production they are distributed to destined customers by limited number of vehicles. Customers located in dispersed regions place their orders with predetermined demand size and time windows. On production side, machines operate under discrete speed modes, low of which requires less energy cost or vice versa. On distribution side, energy consumed by a vehicle varies depending on the size of load on it. Therefore, objective is minimizing the sum of the weighted cost emanating from early and tardy deliveries plus production and distribution costs. Operational decisions for (i) production are to determine the allocation of jobs to the machines and sequence of jobs on any machine as well as speed mode of each machine for a particular job. As for (ii) distribution: We need to decide vehicle assignment to specific subset of consolidated jobs and the sequence of customer visitation for each vehicle. We develop a formulation for the problem at hand involving parallel machine scheduling and vehicle routing to obtain solutions to optimality. Not surprisingly, however, CPLEX only provides optimum solution for all instances with customer number up to and 6, for which reason we present two metaheuristics, namely Memetic Algorithm (MA) and Iterated Local Search (ILS) for practical sized instances. Computational results indicate that ILS yields better solutions in shorter times as compared to its counterpart.

Makine Öğrenmesi ile Paylaşımlı Bisiklet Kullanımına Ait Talep Tahmini: Konya Örneği
(2024) Atasagun, Gözde Can; Yağmur, Ece

Multi-Trip Heterogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem Coordinated With Production Scheduling: Memetic Algorithm and Simulated Annealing Approaches
(PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD, 2021-11-01) Yağmur, Ece; Kesen, Saadettin Erhan
This paper studies a joint production scheduling and outbound distribution planning problem in which orders are processed by several machines in series with the same sequence known as permutation flow shop and are then distributed to destined customers in a batch by multiple heterogeneous capacitated vehicles, all of which are allowed to take multiple trips. When order is placed by a customer due date is prescribed as well. Due to the limited number of vehicles, orders need to be combined in a trip to decrease the total travelling time needed by the vehicles but in which case some of the customer orders can be tardy resulting from late deliveries. The objective of the problem is therefore to determine the minimum total tour time traversed by the vehicles and tardiness that might result from late deliveries. We present a mixed integer programming (MIP) formulation. But, due to intractability matters, optimal solution of the MIP formulation can only be obtained for small sized instances. Therefore, we also propose a Memetic Algorithm (MA) with the use of a new splitting procedure based on Prins' algorithm for considering both total tardiness and total tour time and Simulated Annealing (SA) in order to offer favorable solutions in a reasonable time. Computational experiments are performed to assess the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms on a large number of test instances, which are randomly generated. Computational results indicate that both MA and SA can find optimal solutions for small sized instances in quite short time while MA outperforms SA in terms of solution quality for medium and big sized instances.
