The Rietveld analyses show that Er2-xCoxO3 nanoparticles up to x = 0.1 have single phase, for x >= 0.2 Co3O4 phase appears. Preferential cationic distribution between the non-equivalent sites 8b and 24d is found for all samples. A systematic variation is found in the average maximum strain with composition x. The magnetic analysis showed that super-paramagnetism is the reason of S-shaped hysteresis loops and also non-zero magnetic moments. Both Mr and Ms increased with increasing concentration of Co+2.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Structural Properties and Electron Spin Resonance (esr) Dose Estimations of Fossil Cow Tooth Enamel From Kosk Hoyuk, Turkey(Springer, 2023-07-06) Karataş, Özgül; Kayalı, Refik; Ünal Ercan, Hatice; Ercan, Hatice UnalIn this work, two cow teeth collected from the Nigde-Kosk Hoyuk excavation site in Turkey were studied for characterization and dosimetric purposes. Each tooth sample was prepared by applying mechanical and chemical methods to obtain the enamel fractions. To do this, mineralogical and elemental concentration properties of the tooth enamels were investigated by performing X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray measurements (SEM-EDX). It was found that the enamel structures contained a highly hydroxyapatite crystalline without any characteristic impurities. The dose response of the tooth enamels was determined by using the electron spin resonance (ESR) method. Absorbed radiation doses were calculated as (26.05 & PLUSMN; 0.15) Gy and (25.48 & PLUSMN; 0.18) Gy by the additive dose method using both natural radiation doses and artificial irradiation doses of the enamel samples. It is concluded that these samples could be used to reconstruct radiation doses. This result can be considered as a precursor for future ESR dosimetry/dating studies of other fossil teeth at this excavation site.Article An Experimental Investigation into the Dosimetric Performance of Promising Dry Gelatin Materials Exposed to 6 MV Photons at Clinical Doses as ESR Dosimeters(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2026-08-01) Karagoz, Aleyna; Sar, Okan; Safran, Serap; Karatas, Ozgul; Onur, Mehmet RuhiThis study investigates, to the best of our knowledge, the dosimetric feasibility of dry gelatin material (DGM) pellets derived from bovine (high bloom) and porcine (low bloom) sources as tissue-equivalent Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) dosimeters for clinical radiotherapy. The pellets were exposed to 6 MV photon beams in the clinical dose range of 0.2-10 Gy using a linear accelerator (LINAC). Comprehensive analyses, including Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, microhardness tests, and particle size analysis, were conducted to elucidate the influence of biological origin, specifically bloom strength and particle size distribution, on dosimetric performance. The results revealed that while the higher bloom strength of bovine gelatin led to larger particle agglomeration, the porcine DGM exhibited superior physical homogeneity and mechanical precision. Both DGM types demonstrated promising dose-response linearity (R-2 approximate to 0.995) comparable to commercial TLD-100 and BeO dosimeters. Although a significant signal fading of approximately 47% was observed over 84 days for both materials, the decay kinetics followed a predictable double-exponential model (R-2 > 0.991), allowing for precise dose estimation using a fading correction factor (FCF). Interestingly, the fading characteristics were found to be governed by the amorphous matrix structure rather than the polypeptide chain length associated with bloom strength. The study concludes that with appropriate background and fading corrections, DGM pellets offer a promising, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative for clinical quality assurance applications as ESR dosimeters. One of the most widely used edible oil is olive oil, which unfortunately is very frequently adulterated by adding a different, cheaper oil to reduce its cost. Therefore, a useful and economical method or device is needed to detect counterfeiting and adulteration of oils. In this study, a low-cost, easy-to-use, lightweight, and practical time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance (TD-NMR) device was developed for quality control and food safety applications, including testing edible oils. For this purpose, a measurement system, consisting of an O-shaped magnet with NdFeB permanent disc magnets, a radio frequency (RF) detection probe and a temperature stabilization/control system, was designed. Using this homemade device, the spin-lattice (T-1) and spin-spin (T-2) relaxation times of seven different olive oils were measured. The received results were compared with those obtained by two different commercial low-field NMR (LF-NMR) devices. It was established a good agreement between the experimental results obtained on the homemade system and the commercial LF-NMR devices. Compounds classified as heterocyclic possible created the largest and most diverse family of organic compounds. In this study, we reported that a new template has been syntheses from a cyanuric chloride and its diamine derivative. The desired triamine a tripodal 2, 4, 6-tris (p-aminoaanilino)-1, 3, 5-triazine (C21H21N9), called to be TRIPOD, has been obtained from cyanuric chloride with 3 eq of p-phenylenediamine reaction in acetone. After synthesis, TRIPOD sample which was polycrystal form was irradiated by cobalt-gamma source. The electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of TRIPOD were recorded using X-band EPR spectrometer at room temperature in three axes (x, y, z) which are perpendicular at 10o intervals. The selected novel composite samples were prepared with varying proportions of additive materials (10, 20, 30, and 40 wt%) so that impact of the additive amount on radiation shielding could be properly analyzed. Evaluations of specimens were performed at different energy levels ranging from 20 keV to 1.3325 MeV with help of a NaI scintillation detector, MC simulation (GEANT4) and WinXCOM theoretical calculation code. Following the production of shielding samples, the characterization and structural evaluation was performed using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscope (FE- SEM /EDX) supported by EDAX energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The results demonstrate that the incorporation of additives into composite materials enhances the gamma attenuation capacity. The optimal gamma shielding performance is achieved with a 40 wt% ZnB40 composition, which exhibits superior shielding efficacy at lower gamma-ray energies. The MAC value of ZnB40 at 20 keV is about 2.7343 times higher than one of ZnB10 while it is about 1.2675 times greater at 80.9 keV. Moreover, it can be safely said that ZnB40 material can be a suitable option for insulating dentist rooms or buildings that require the use of regular aprons.Article Gama Işınları ile Işınlanmış Yeni Bir Isoquinoline Sulfonamide (c17h20brno3s) Maddesinin X-bant Epr Çalışması(Konya Technical University, 2020-12-31) Karataş, Özgül; Ceylan, YusufKaynaşık bir heteroksil bileşiği olan yeni epoxyisoquinoline sulfonamide maddesi (I), (4aS,7S,8aR)-8a-bromo-7-methyl-2-tosyl-2,3,4,7,8,8a-hexahydro-1H-4a,7-epoxyisoquinoline, yeşil ve kademeli bir süreç ile sentezlendi. Daha sonra doz hızı of 0.981 kGy/h olan 60Co-gama (?) kaynağı ile oda sıcaklığında 72 saat ışınlandı. I bileşiğinin EPR spektrumları, 150-340 K sıcaklık aralığında X-bant EPR spektrometresi kullanılarak manyetik alanda üç farklı yönelimde kaydedildi. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, örneğe ait izotropik spektrumların olduğu görüldü ve C ?H_3 H radikalinin varlığı gözlemlendi. Sonuçlar, Bruker WinEPR-Simfonia programı kullanılarak fit edildi. Radikalin aşırı ince yapı sabiti (A) ile deneysel izotropik spektroskopik değeri (g) hesaplandı.Article Determination of Optimal Modulation Amplitude for Electron Spin Resonance (esr) Dating and Dosimetry Studies of Tooth Enamel(2020-12-07) Karataş, ÖzgülFossil remains, which provide important information about past life and ecology, are especially important in natural history and life evolution. Recently, many interdisciplinary dating studies have been conducted and many different techniques have been used to investigate the data obtained in this field. Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) (or alternatively, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, EPR) is one of the methods used in absolute dating and dosimetry studies. It is based on determination of the radiation-centered radicals obtained from the radiation dose absorbed by irradiated materials. One of the important problems in dosimetry and dating studies performed with ESR method is the dependence of experimental parameters on the accumulated dose. The accumulated dose value is effective in determining the actual result of the dating and dosimetric samples. This value is influenced from the stability of the ESR centers, experimental stages, sample preparation or measurement processes. In this study, how the modulation amplitude parameter affects ESR signal intensity in ESR dating and dosimetry studies of tooth enamel investigated. The selective archaeological animal tooth enamel sample was used from the archaeological site of Köşk Höyük, in Turkey for experimental studies. This sample was prepared with combined processes of mechanical and chemical treatment of tooth in laboratory. Tooth enamel sample was irradiated by 60Co gamma-ray source in dose of 1kGy. After irradiation, ESR spectra were recorded at different modulation amplitude values at room temperature using X-band ESR Spectrometer. According to the results obtained, the most suitable modulation amplitude values for ESR measurements of tooth enamel sample examined in the study.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1An Experimental Study on Dosimetric and Characteristic Properties of Bovine Dentin(Springer Heidelberg, 2023-01-13) Karataş, ÖzgülIn this study, a bovine dentin, from a material collection which was excavated in Nevsehir-urgup, Turkey, was used. This dentin sample was prepared in the laboratory using cutting, cleaning, grinding, and separating processes, respectively. The obtained dentin aliquots were irradiated with multiply radiation doses between 50 Gy and 2 kGy by Co-60-gamma irradiator. The dosimetric properties and the radiation dose of this sample were determined using the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) method. During the measurements, the EPR spectra were recorded at four different temperatures (4 K, 50 K, 100 K, and 298 K) using X-Band ESR spectrometer. By these spectra, it was determined that the radiation-induced paramagnetic radical was occurred, and the accumulated radiation dose was calculated to be (12.404 +/- 0.48) Gy. Also, this sample was analyzed in terms of microstructure and porosity using the field emission scanning electron microscopy, elemental composition using the energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, mineralogical composition using the X-ray diffraction, and chemical bonding using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. As a result of all these measurements, it was understood that this sample had a single-phase hydroxyapatite crystal.
