    Evaluation of an Alternative Approach To Increase Productivity in Architecture Project Studios Through Student Projects

    Studio courses in architectural education are undoubtedly among the most important courses that prepare students for professional design life. A given project should be guided with the support of the instructors and should include a simulation of the process in professional business life. Despite this, research shows that there is a disconnect between academia and the professional process. In addition to the fact that the educational process tries to add a different understanding to the student, professional life cannot find the middle point with academic education due to the constant changes in regulations due to rent and similar reasons. In such an environment, giving meaning to projects with an idealistic understanding, offering a thematic experience and producing holistic buildings with identity increases the importance of alternative approaches in project studios in educational processes. Although it is not possible to prevent the emergence of identity-less and rent-oriented products in the market only through architectural education, approaches that will increase productivity in this education will also increase students' expectations from the profession. The conceptual approach, which is one of these alternatives, can be defined as creating a network of relationships based on a basic idea. This network of relationships allows the concept to be transformed into a concrete structure by distributing it to all project processes without moving away from the context and with an inclusive approach. In this study, first of all, the conceptual approach in design education will be emphasized and general definitions will be made, and Studio-2, Studio-3, and Studio-4 courses in Konya Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architecture in 2021-2022 will be evaluated with a conceptual approach. With this approach, it has been concluded that the student's design perception and thinking technique can be developed by creating concept-based, original, and holistic, and focusing on the missing aspects of professional life in project courses.

    Engelli Çocuklar Tarafindan Kullanilan Parklarin Ergonomik Açidan Analizi: Ankara Örneği

    Parklar çocuğun fiziksel, duygusal, ruhsal, sosyal ve kültürel gelişiminin sağlandığı mekânlardır. Parklar farklı özellikteki çocuklar için ergonomik düzenlemelere dikkat edilerek tasarlanmalıdır. Bu çalışma engelli çocuklara yönelik geliştirilen engelsiz çocuk parklarının ergonomi kriterlerine göre tasarlanıp tasarlanmadığının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda seçilmiş Şehit Uzman Onbaşı Murat Azizo Parkı ergonomik açıdan değerlendirilmiş ve analiz edilmiştir. Engelsiz parklarda olması gereken ergonomik düzenlemelere ilişkin kriterler oyun alanları, zemin elemanları, dinlenme cepleri ve oturma elemanları, işaret ve levhalar, çöp kovalar, aydınlatma başlıkları altında ele alınmıştır. Analiz sonucunda parkın sadece ortopedik engelli çocukları düşünülerek tasarlandığı, tasarımda ergonomik standartlara dikkat edilmediği, görme, işitme ve zihinsel engelli çocuklara uygun olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca ortopedik engelli çocuklar için de çoğu oyun araçlarının bağımsız kullanımı desteklemediği belirlenmiştir. Ek olarak park içerisindeki oyun alanlarında çocukların gelişimsel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayacak çeşitliliğin olmadığı gözlenmiştir. Genelde engelli parklarına yönelik standardın olmadığı, özelde parkın ergonomik kriterlere göre tasarlanmayışı ve düzenli aralıklarla bakım işlerinin yapılmadığı belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada parklarda tüm engel türleri düşünülerek yapılan ergonomik düzenlemelerin güvenliği, kaliteyi, verimi ve kullanıcı konfor koşullarını artıracağı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

    Son 10 Yılda Tasarlanan Serpentine Pavilyonlarının Biomimikri ve Parametrik Tasarım Açısından Biçimsel Analizi

    Dijital tasarım alanında yaşanan gelişmelerin bir sonucu olarak ortaya çıkan yazılımlar ve teknolojik araçlar, tasarım alanında yeni yaklaşımların ortaya çıkmasına olanak sağlamış ve var olan yaklaşımlarında uygulanabilirliği, denetlenebilirliği ve kontrol edilebilirliğini arttırmıştır. Bu yaklaşımlardan olan parametrik tasarım yaklaşımı ve biomimikri tasarım yaklaşımı son yıllarda birçok tasarım alanında teknolojinin araçlar sayesinde karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada da son 10 yılda yapılan Serpentine pavilyonlarının bu iki yaklaşım üzerinden değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır. Yapılan çalışmada Serpentine pavilyonlarından bahsedilmiş olup, her bir pavilyon biomimikri ve parametrik tasarım yaklaşımları tarafından analiz edilmiştir. Serpentine Pavilyonlarında da bu iki yaklaşımın kullanıldığına dair bulgulara rastlandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu durum sonraki yıllarda tasarlanacak Serpentine pavilyonlarında da devam edeceğinin öngürülmesi ile beraber, küçük ölçekli yapılarda bu iki yaklaşımın daha kontrol edilebilir, uygulanabilir ve dentelenebilir olduğu sonucuna da varılmaktadır. Yapılan çalışma da Serpentine pavilyonları özelinde tasarım alanında bu iki yaklaşım ayrı ayrı kullanılabileceği gibi birlikte de tasarıma etki edeceği sonucuna varılmıştır.

    Interior Arrangement in Children Libraries During the Covid 19 Pandemic Process: the Example of Konya Seljuk Municipality Kpp Children's Library

    The aim of this study is to analyse the compliance of the Seljuk Municipality Konya Plain Project Children's Library in Konya, Turkey with the design principles in line with the recommendations of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. This descriptive study, which aims to analyse Konya Plain Project Children Library from a spatial point of view, was conducted according to the case study from qualitative research methods. In this study, the physical, ergonomic, and social suitability of the library was evaluated by photographing technique by making observations and measurements, presented with visual materials and the inadequacies in its structure were revealed. The fact that the building was designed as a municipal building and later converted into a library caused some of the parameters recommended by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions to not meet sufficiently. The fact that the library is located on the third floor has limited its relationship with the environment, its location in the centre of the city and on a noisy street, and the inability to control the sound in the study rooms have increased the noise level. The natural lighting of the library is determined to be uncontrolled and insufficient. It was determined that there were no building elements to control the sun, direction finding signs and a care room for babies or children. In addition, it was determined that ergonomic criteria were ignored in the design of the space. As a result of this study, it was determined that the Konya Plain Project Children's Library should be redesigned in terms of location, noise level, natural and artificial lighting, signage and wayfinding signs, child or baby care room. In addition, it has been determined that comfort and aesthetic elements have been at the forefront of the Konya Plain Project Children's Library, and it has been tried to keep up with the requirements of technology institutionally. Space design has been emphasized and suggestions have been developed in order to increase the use of children's libraries and to make the service appealing to wider audiences.

    The Ideology of Parametric Design

    Parametric design approach is widely encountered in today's design practice and education. With the latest point reached in computer software, the development and awareness of parametric design tools is increasing. The parametric design approach, with its new understanding and search for form and form in the field of design, is evaluated by designers as a problem of making and constructing physical production. In this study, the parametric design approach to the problem mentioned not only the possibilities brought by digital design tools related to physical production but also the necessity of considering intellectual production in the parametric design approach is discussed. At this point, the study mentions this deficiency and tries to address the ideology of the parametric design approach. The article currently discusses the need to address the underlying ideology of the parametric design approach, not only as a result of technology.

    İç Mimarlık Öğrencilerinin Problem Çözme ve Eleştirel Düşünme Becerileri Arasındaki İlişki

    Bu çalışma bir üniversitenin iç mimarlık bölümünde eğitim gören öğrencilerin problem çözme becerileri ve eleştirel düşünme eğilimlerini belirlemek ve bu iki kavram arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla kesitsel tipte yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini 2022-2023 eğitim- öğretim yılı bahar döneminde okuyan 147 iç mimarlık öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Veriler öğrencilerin sosyodemografik ve akademik özelliklerinin değerlendirildiği kişisel bilgi formu, problem çözme becerilerinin belirlendiği “Problem Çözme Envanteri” ve eleştirel düşünme eğilimlerinin saptandığı “UF/EMI Eleştirel Düşünme Eğilim Ölçeği” kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Veriler sayı, yüzde, ortalama, min.-max. değerleri, bağımsız gruplarda t testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi ve Pearson Korelasyon analizleri yapılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Öğrenciler Problem Çözme Envanteri’nden 68,86 ± 16,59 puan, Eleştirel Düşünme Ölçeği’nden 88,22 ± 18,70 puan almışlardır. Öğrencilerin sosyal ve akademik etkinliklere katılma durumları, anne ve babalarının tutumu ile problem çözme becerileri arasında anlamlı ilişki saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Öğrencilerin cinsiyetleri, kütüphaneye gitme durumları, anne ve babalarının tutumları ile eleştirel düşünme eğilimi arasında anlamlı ilişki saptanmıştır (p<0.05). Ayrıca öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünme eğilimleri toplam puanı ile problem çözme becerileri toplam puanları arasında orta düzeyde, anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur (r=.341, p<.001). Sonuçta problem çözme becerileri yüksek olan iç mimarlık öğrencilerinin eleştirel düşünme eğilimlerinin de yüksek olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

    Bilgi ve Değer Dünyasında Mimarlık; Mananın Taşlaşması

    Mimari, mekânı meydana getiren malzemelerin; ahşabın, demirin, taş ve daha fazlasındaki ahengin inşasıdır. Mimaride ahengi yaratmak malzemeyi tanımak, malzemenin özündeki ahengi anlamak ve bu bilinçle malzemenin; varlığın bütünlüğünü kavramak gerektiğinden hareketle bu çalışmada, mimarinin güçlü ve somut sembollerinden biri olan taş ve ona işlenen düşünce dünyasının mimarideki yeri ve önemi ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada izlenen yol taşa muameleleri ve taşa işledikleri düşünceler yönünden birbirinden çok farklı olan üç üslubun; Rönesans dönemi, Barok dönemi ve Türk‐İslam mimarisinin incelenmesiyle ilerlemektedir. Rönesans döneminde Hristiyanlığa bir tepki olarak kullanılan taş, bütün sertliği ve keskinliğiyle kullanılmış, mimari formlar ve strüktür için belirleyici bir unsur olmuştur. Barok mimaride, taş sanatı doğaya yeniden şekil verme olarak algılanmış, abartılı dekor ve hacimler sayesinde mimari bir güç ve görkem oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır. Türk‐İslam mimarisinde tuğlanın yerini taş almış, kireçtaşı ve tüfler büyük bir ustalıkla işlenerek cami, medrese ve han gibi binaların dış ve iç mekânlarını süslemiştir. Sonuç olarak ellerimizin olduğu kadar düşüncelerimizin de eseri olan mimari yapıtlarda taşı ve onun özünü anlamak mimariye dolayısıyla kendimize, insanlığa yükleyeceğimiz anlamları da arttıracaktır. Çağdaş yapılarda kullanılan taş malzemeye işlenen düşünce ve üslüp anlayışını yeniden sorgulanmasını sağlayacaktır. Bu sayede taşa işleyeceğimiz mananın taştaki mana ile bütünleşmesi mimari yapıyı daha da yüceleştirecektir.

    The Use and Evaluation of the Biomimicry Approch in the Field of Design

    From past to present, human beings have succeeded in learning and surviving by being inspired by nature. In fact, the concept of learning by being inspired by nature is not a new concept. However, today, the necessity of using our resources more efficiently due to global warming and the increasing importance given to the concepts of energy efficiency, sustainability and ecology necessitate bringing alternative approaches and solutions related to nature to the design problem in the field of design. In this context, the concept of biomimicry, which is one of the new approaches in the field of design (it is formed by the combination of the concepts of "bios" and "mimic". The concept of "bios" refers to life, and the concept of "mimic" refers to similitude) is a concept that means learning by following nature and being inspired by nature. approach. Many software tools that have emerged with the developments in the field of technology have also enabled us to increase our ability to analyze and evaluate nature, which constantly renews and improves itself, and facilitates the imitation of nature in the development of form and function in the design processes and integrating it into the design. In the context of design, biomimicry means examining the solutions that nature brought in the evolutionary process and transferring it to the design field. In the design process, biomimicry generally falls into two distinctive categories. These are “from design to biology” (problem-oriented design approach) and “from biology to design” (solution-oriented design approaches). In this study, the design approaches brought by the concept of biomimicry to the field of design will be examined through examples, the innovations, conveniences and importance of the biomimicry design approach will be mentioned and its contributions will be mentioned.
