Article Production of Thermoplastic Starch From Bread Wastes and Investigate the Properties of Its Blends With Low Density Polyethylene(Konya Technical University, 2021) Yıldırım, Rumeysa; İnan, Özgenur; Kodal, Mehmet; Özkoç, GüralpWithin the scope of this study, it was aimed to obtain thermoplastic starch (TPS) from bread waste and convert it into qualified products. TPS was produced from bread waste for the first time in the literature. Water and glycerol were used as plasticizers. To improve the mechanical properties of TPS, blends of low-density polyethylene (LDPE)/TPS were produced. LDPE/TPS blends were carried out in a twin screw lab-scale Xplore model micro-compounder. After blending process, LDPE/TPS blends were injection-molded using an Xplore model micro-injection molding device to obtain standard test samples. Mechanical, morphological, thermal, and biodegradable properties of LDPE/TPS blends were investigated depending on the TPS ratio. Tensile strength and elongation at break of LDPE decreased with the addition of TPS. The interfacial interaction between LDPE and TPS improved with the use of increasing amounts of TPS in LDPE/TPS blends. It was observed that the biodegradation times of the blends decreased at high TPS loading levels.
