    Investigation of the Structural Properties of Age-Hardenable Commercial Aluminum Alloys With Various Zn and Mg Contents

    In this study, the microstructural properties and hardness of five different commercial aluminum alloys containing various amount of Zn and Mg have been investigated. After production, the alloys were solutionized at 500°C for 1 hour and subsequently aged at 200°C for 1, 4 and 16 hours.Microstructural properties such as size, amount, distribution and morphology of constituent phases were not much changed with respect to aging condition or Zn and Mg content. However, certain amount of coarsening was observed in the microstructures of 16 h aged all specimens due to overaging. After aging treatment, the hardness values of all investigated compositions increased significantly. For all compositions, the peak hardness was observed for 4 h aged specimens.
