Azimuthal Anisotropy of Dijet Events in Pbpb Collisions at √snn=5.02 Tev
    (SPRINGER, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The path-length dependent parton energy loss within the dense partonic medium created in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of root s(NN) = 5.02TeV is studied by determining the azimuthal anisotropies for dijets with high transverse momentum. The data were collected by the CMS experiment in 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.69 nb(-1). For events containing back-to-back jets, correlations in relative azimuthal angle and pseudorapidity (eta) between jets and hadrons, and between two hadrons, are constructed. The anisotropies are expressed as the Fourier expansion coefficients v(n), n = 2-4 of these azimuthal distributions. The dijet v(n) values are extracted from long-range (1.5 < vertical bar Delta eta vertical bar < 2.5) components of these correlations, which suppresses the background contributions from jet fragmentation processes. Positive dijet v(2) values are observed which increase from central to more peripheral events, while the v(3) and v(4) values are consistent with zero within experimental uncertainties.

Azimuthal Correlations in Z +jets Events in Proton–proton Collisions at √s=13tev
(Institute for Ionics, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Tok, U.G.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The production of Z bosons associated with jets is measured in pp collisions at s=13TeV with data recorded with the CMS experiment at the LHC corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb-1 . The multiplicity of jets with transverse momentum pT>30GeV is measured for different regions of the Z boson’s pT(Z) , from lower than 10 GeV to higher than 100 GeV . The azimuthal correlation Δϕ between the Z boson and the leading jet, as well as the correlations between the two leading jets are measured in three regions of pT(Z) . The measurements are compared with several predictions at leading and next-to-leading orders, interfaced with parton showers. Predictions based on transverse-momentum dependent parton distributions and corresponding parton showers give a good description of the measurement in the regions where multiple parton interactions and higher jet multiplicities are not important. The effects of multiple parton interactions are shown to be important to correctly describe the measured spectra in the low pT(Z) regions. © 2023, The Author(s).

Cms Pythia 8 Colour Reconnection Tunes Based on Underlying-Event Data
(Institute for Ionics, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Akgun, B.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
New sets of parameter tunes for two of the colour reconnection models, quantum chromodynamics-inspired and gluon-move, implemented in the pythia 8 event generator, are obtained based on the default CMS pythia 8 underlying-event tune, CP5. Measurements sensitive to the underlying event performed by the CMS experiment at centre-of-mass energies s=7 and 13 TeV , and by the CDF experiment at 1.96 TeV are used to constrain the parameters of colour reconnection models and multiple-parton interactions simultaneously. The new colour reconnection tunes are compared with various measurements at 1.96, 7, 8, and 13 TeV including measurements of the underlying-event, strange-particle multiplicities, jet substructure observables, jet shapes, and colour flow in top quark pair (t t ¯) events. The new tunes are also used to estimate the uncertainty related to colour reconnection modelling in the top quark mass measurement using the decay products of t t ¯ events in the semileptonic channel at 13 TeV . © 2023, The Author(s).

Combination of Measurements of the Top Quark Mass From Data Collected by the Atlas and Cms Experiments at √=7 and 8 Tev
(American Physical Society, 2024) Hayrapetyan, A.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
A combination of fifteen top quark mass measurements performed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC is presented. The datasets used correspond to an integrated luminosity of up to 5 and Formula Presented of proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, respectively. The combination includes measurements in top quark pair events that exploit both the semileptonic and hadronic decays of the top quark, and a measurement using events enriched in single top quark production via the electroweak Formula Presented channel. The combination accounts for the correlations between measurements and achieves an improvement in the total uncertainty of 31% relative to the most precise input measurement. The result is Formula Presented, with a total uncertainty of 0.33 GeV. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS and ATLASs Collaboration.

Combined Search for Electroweak Production of Winos, Binos, Higgsinos, and Sleptons in Proton-Proton Collisions at Formula Presented
(American Physical Society, 2024) Hayrapetyan, A.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
A combination of the results of several searches for the electroweak production of the supersymmetric partners of standard model bosons, and of charged leptons, is presented. All searches use proton-proton collision data at Formula Presented recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016-2018. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of up to Formula Presented. The results are interpreted in terms of simplified models of supersymmetry. Two new interpretations are added with this combination: a model spectrum with the bino as the lightest supersymmetric particle together with mass-degenerate Higgsinos decaying to the bino and a standard model boson, and the compressed-spectrum region of a previously studied model of slepton pair production. Improved analysis techniques are employed to optimize sensitivity for the compressed spectra in the wino and slepton pair production models. The results are consistent with expectations from the standard model. The combination provides a more comprehensive coverage of the model parameter space than the individual searches, extending the exclusion by up to 125 GeV, and also targets some of the intermediate gaps in the mass coverage. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration.

Constraints on Anomalous Higgs Boson Couplings To Vector Bosons and Fermions From the Production of Higgs Bosons Using the Tt Final State
(Amer Physical Soc, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
A study of anomalous couplings of the Higgs boson to vector bosons and fermions is presented. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of pp collisions at the LHC of 13 TeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb-1. The study uses Higgs boson candidates produced mainly in gluon fusion or electroweak vector boson fusion at the LHC that subsequently decay to a pair of z leptons. Matrix-element and machine-learning techniques were employed in a search for anomalous interactions. The results are combined with those from the four-lepton and two-photon decay channels to yield the most stringent constraints on anomalous Higgs boson couplings to date. The pure CP-odd scenario of the Higgs boson coupling to gluons is excluded at 2.4 standard deviations. The results are consistent with the standard model predictions.

Differential Cross Section Measurements for the Production of Top Quark Pairs and of Additional Jets Using Dilepton Events From Pp Collisions at S = 13 Tev
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2025) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Trapote, A.
Differential cross sections for top quark pair (tt¯) production are measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV using a sample of events containing two oppositely charged leptons. The data were recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. The differential cross sections are measured as functions of kinematic observables of the tt¯ system, the top quark and antiquark and their decay products, as well as of the number of additional jets in the event. The results are presented as functions of up to three variables and are corrected to the parton and particle levels. When compared to standard model predictions based on quantum chromodynamics at different levels of accuracy, it is found that the calculations do not always describe the observed data. The deviations are found to be largest for the multi-differential cross sections. © The Author(s) 2025.

Evidence for Four-Top Quark Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13 Tev
    (Elsevier, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The production of four top quarks (tt over bar tt over bar ) is studied with LHC proton-proton collision data samples collected by the CMS experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, and corresponding to integrated luminosities of up to 138 fb-1. Events that have no leptons (all-hadronic), one lepton, or two oppositesign leptons (where lepton refers only to prompt electrons or prompt muons) are considered. This is the first tt over bar tt over bar measurement that includes the all-hadronic final state. The observed significance of the tt over bar tt over bar signal in these final states of 3.9 standard deviations (1.5 expected) provides evidence for tt over bar tt over bar production, with a measured cross section of 36+12 signal significance is 4.0 standard deviations (3.2 expected). The combination returns an observed cross section of 17 +/- 4 (stat) +/- 3 (syst) fb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction. (c) 2023 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier B.V. Extracting the Speed of Sound in Quark-Gluon Plasma With Ultrarelativistic Lead-Lead Collisions at the Lhc
(Institute of Physics, 2024) Hayrapetyan, A.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
Ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions create a strongly interacting state of hot and dense quark-gluon matter that exhibits a remarkable collective flow behavior with minimal viscous dissipation. To gain deeper insights into its intrinsic nature and fundamental degrees of freedom, we determine the speed of sound in an extended volume of quark-gluon plasma using lead-lead (PbPb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of 5.02 TeV. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 0.607 nb−1. The measurement is performed by studying the multiplicity dependence of the average transverse momentum of charged particles emitted in head-on PbPb collisions. Our findings reveal that the speed of sound in this matter is nearly half the speed of light, with a squared value of 0.241 ±0.002(stat) ±0.016(syst) in natural units. The effective medium temperature, estimated using the mean transverse momentum, is 219 ±8(syst)MeV. The measured squared speed of sound at this temperature aligns precisely with predictions from lattice quantum chromodynamic (QCD) calculations. This result provides a stringent constraint on the equation of state of the created medium and direct evidence for a deconfined QCD phase being attained in relativistic nuclear collisions. © 2024 CERN, for the benefit of the CMS Collaboration.

First Measurement of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13.6 Tev
    (Springer, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The first measurement of the top quark pair (t (t) over bar) production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13.6TeV is presented. Data recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC in Summer 2022, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.21 fb(-1), are analyzed. Events are selected with one or two charged leptons (electrons or muons) and additional jets. A maximum likelihood fit is performed in event categories defined by the number and flavors of the leptons, the number of jets, and the number of jets identified as originating from b quarks. An inclusive t (t) over bar production cross section of 881 +/- 23 (stat + syst) +/- 20 (lumi) pb is measured, in agreement with the standard model prediction of 924(-40)(+32) pb.

Higher-Order Moments of the Elliptic Flow Distribution in Pbpb Collisions at Snn = 5.02 Tev
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2024) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The hydrodynamic flow-like behavior of charged hadrons in high-energy lead-lead collisions is studied through multiparticle correlations. The elliptic anisotropy values based on different orders of multiparticle cumulants, v2{2k}, are measured up to the tenth order (k = 5) as functions of the collision centrality at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sNN = 5.02 TeV. The data were recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 0.607 nb−1. A hierarchy is observed between the coefficients, with v2{2} > v2{4} ≳ v2{6} ≳ v2{8} ≳ v2{10}. Based on these results, centrality-dependent moments for the fluctuation-driven event-by-event v2 distribution are determined, including the skewness, kurtosis and, for the first time, superskewness. Assuming a hydrodynamic expansion of the produced medium, these moments directly probe the initial-state geometry in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. © The Author(s) 2024.

Inclusive and Differential Cross Section Measurements of Single Top Quark Production in Association With a Z Boson in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s = 13 TeV
(Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.
Inclusive and differential cross sections of single top quark production in association with a Z boson are measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1 recorded by the CMS experiment. Events are selected based on the presence of three leptons, electrons or muons, associated with leptonic Z boson and top quark decays. The measurement yields an inclusive cross section of 87.9−7.3+7.5(stat)−6.0+7.3(syst) fb for a dilepton invariant mass greater than 30 GeV, in agreement with standard model (SM) calculations and represents the most precise determination to date. The ratio between the cross sections for the top quark and the top antiquark production in association with a Z boson is measured as 2.37−0.42+0.56(stat)−0.13+0.27(syst). Differential measurements at parton and particle levels are performed for the first time. Several kinematic observables are considered to study the modeling of the process. Results are compared to theoretical predictions with different assumptions on the source of the initial-state b quark and found to be in agreement, within the uncertainties. Additionally, the spin asymmetry, which is sensitive to the top quark polarization, is determined from the differential distribution of the polarization angle at parton level to be 0.54 ± 0.16 (stat) ± 0.06 (syst), in agreement with SM predictions. Inclusive Nonresonant Multilepton Probes of New Phenomena at Root S=13 Tev
(Amer Physical Soc, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Güler, Yalçın; The CMS Collaboration
An inclusive search for nonresonant signatures of beyond the standard model (SM) phenomena in events with three or more charged leptons, including hadronically decaying tau leptons, is presented. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018. Events are categorized based on the lepton and b-tagged jet multiplicities and various kinematic variables. Three scenarios of physics beyond the SM are probed, and signal-specific boosted decision trees are used for enhancing sensitivity. No significant deviations from the background expectations are observed. Lower limits are set at 95% confidence level on the mass of type-III seesaw heavy fermions in the range 845-1065 GeV for various decay branching fraction combinations to SM leptons. Doublet and singlet vectorlike tau lepton extensions of the SM are excluded for masses below 1045 GeV and in the mass range 125-150 GeV, respectively. Scalar leptoquarks decaying exclusively to a top quark and a lepton are excluded below 1.12-1.42 TeV, depending on the lepton flavor. For the type-III seesaw as well as the vectorlike doublet model, these constraints are the most stringent to date. For the vectorlike singlet model, these are the first constraints from the LHC experiments. Detailed results are also presented to facilitate alternative theoretical interpretations.

Ks0< and Λ((λ)over-Bar) Two-Particle Femtoscopic Correlations in Pbpb Collisions at √snn< Tev
    (Elsevier, 2024) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Zhokin, A.
Two-particle correlations are presented for K-S(0), Lambda, and (Lambda) over bar strange hadrons as a function of relative momentum in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. The dataset corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 0.607 nb(-1) and was collected using the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. These correlations are sensitive to quantum statistics and to final-state interactions between the particles. The source size extracted from the (KSKS0)-K-0 correlations is found to decrease from 4.6 to 1.6 fm in going from central to peripheral collisions. Strong interaction scattering parameters (i.e., scattering length and effective range) are determined from the Lambda K-S(0) and Lambda Lambda (including their charge conjugates) correlations using the Lednicky-Lyuboshitz model and are compared to theoretical and other experimental results.

Luminosity Determination Using Z Boson Production at the Cms Experiment
(Institute for Ionics, 2024) Hayrapetyan, A.; Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The measurement of Z boson production is presented as a method to determine the integrated luminosity of CMS data sets. The analysis uses proton–proton collision data, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in 2017 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV . Events with Z bosons decaying into a pair of muons are selected. The total number of Z bosons produced in a fiducial volume is determined, together with the identification efficiencies and correlations from the same data set, in small intervals of 20 pb-1 of integrated luminosity, thus facilitating the efficiency and rate measurement as a function of time and instantaneous luminosity. Using the ratio of the efficiency-corrected numbers of Z bosons, the precisely measured integrated luminosity of one data set is used to determine the luminosity of another. For the first time, a full quantitative uncertainty analysis of the use of Z bosons for the integrated luminosity measurement is performed. The uncertainty in the extrapolation between two data sets, recorded in 2017 at low and high instantaneous luminosity, is less than 0.5%. We show that the Z boson rate measurement constitutes a precise method, complementary to traditional methods, with the potential to improve the measurement of the integrated luminosity. © 2024, The Author(s).

Measurement and Qcd Analysis of Double-Differential Inclusive Jet Cross Sections in Proton-Proton Collisions at Root S=13 Tev
(Springer, 2022) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Güler, Yalçın; The CMS Collaboration
A measurement of the inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at root s = 13TeV is presented. The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum p(T) and the absolute jet rapidity vertical bar y vertical bar. The anti- k(T) clustering algorithm is used with distance parameter of 0.4 (0.7) in a phase space region with jet p(T) from 97 GeV up to 3.1TeV and vertical bar y vertical bar < 2.0. Data collected with the CMS detector are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb(-1) (33.5 fb(-1)). The measurement is used in a comprehensive QCD analysis at next-to-next-to-leading order, which results in significant improvement in the accuracy of the parton distributions in the proton. Simultaneously, the value of the strong coupling constant at the Z boson mass is extracted as alpha(S)(m(Z)) = 0.1170 +/- 0.0019. For the first time, these data are used in a standard model effective field theory analysis at next-to-leading order, where parton distributions and the QCD parameters are extracted simultaneously with imposed constraints on the Wilson coefficient c(1) of 4-quark contact interactions.

Measurement of Inclusive and Differential Cross Sections for Single Top Quark Production in Association With a W Boson in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13tev
    (SPRINGER, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
Measurements of the inclusive and normalised differential cross sections are presented for the production of single top quarks in association with a W boson in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The data used were recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC during 2016-2018, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). Events containing one electron and one muon in the final state are analysed. For the inclusive measurement, a multivariate discriminant, exploiting the kinematic properties of the events is used to separate the signal from the dominant t (t) over bar background. A cross section of 79.2 +/- 0.9 (stat)(-8.0)(+7.7) (syst) +/- 1.2 (lumi) pb is obtained, consistent with the predictions of the standard model. For the differential measurements, a fiducial region is defined according to the detector acceptance, and the requirement of exactly one jet coming from the fragmentation of a bottom quark. The resulting distributions are unfolded to particle level and agree with the predictions at next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

Measurement of Simplified Template Cross Sections of the Higgs Boson Produced in Association With W or Z Bosons in the Formula Presented Decay Channel in Proton-Proton Collisions at Formula Presented
(American Physical Society, 2024) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J.W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
Differential cross sections are measured for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with vector bosons (Formula Presented, Formula Presented) and decaying to a pair of Formula Presented quarks. Measurements are performed within the framework of the simplified template cross sections. The analysis relies on the leptonic decays of the Formula Presented and Formula Presented bosons, resulting in final states with 0, 1, or 2 electrons or muons. The Higgs boson candidates are either reconstructed from pairs of resolved Formula Presented-tagged jets, or from single large-radius jets containing the particles arising from two Formula Presented quarks. Proton-proton collision data at Formula Presented, collected by the CMS experiment in 2016-2018 and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of Formula Presented, are analyzed. The inclusive signal strength, defined as the product of the observed production cross section and branching fraction relative to the standard model expectation, combining all analysis categories, is found to be Formula Presented. This corresponds to an observed (expected) significance of 6.3 (5.6) standard deviations. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration.

Measurement of the Cross Section of Top Quark-Antiquark Pair Production in Association With a W Boson in Proton-Proton Collisions at √s=13 Tev
    (SPRINGER, 2023) Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Andrejkovic, J. W.; Bergauer, T.; Chatterjee, S.; Damanakis, K.; Dragicevic, M.; Gürpınar Güler, Emine; Güler, Yalçın
The production of a top quark-antiquark pair in association with a W boson (t (t) over barW) is measured in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The analyzed data was recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). Events with two or three leptons (electrons and muons) and additional jets are selected. In events with two leptons, a multiclass neural network is used to distinguish between the signal and background processes. Events with three leptons are categorized based on the number of jets and of jets originating from b quark hadronization, and the lepton charges. The inclusive t (t) over barW(+) production cross section in the full phase space is measured to be 868 +/- 40(stat)+/- 51(syst) fb. The t (t) over barW(+) and t (t) over barW(-) cross sections are also measured as 553 +/- 30(stat)+/- 30(syst) and 343 +/- 26(stat)+/- 25(syst) fb, respectively, and the corresponding ratio of the two cross sections is found to be 1.61 +/- 0.15(stat)(-0.05)(+0.07)(syst). The measured cross sections are larger than but consistent with the standard model predictions within two standard deviations, and represent the most precise measurement of these cross sections to date.
