    Heat Treatment Effect Of Hexagonal Boron Nitride Reinforced Electroless Nickel Coatings;
    (Turkish Energy Nuclear and Mining Research Institute, 2019) Kocabaş, M.; Yılmaz, H.; Cansever, N.
    In this study, surfaces of 1050 aluminium alloy were coated with hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) reinforced electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) composite coating and the effect of heat treatment on the coating structure for 1 hour at 400°C was investigated. Composite coatings were performed in solutions which consist of three different compositions (1, 5 and 10 g/L) of h-BN. A scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were performed on the composite coatings. Additionally, surface roughness and hardness were measured and finally, electrochemical corrosion experiments were conducted in 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The heat treatment process has identified a transition from the amorphous structure to crystalline in the nickel matrix. The result of heat treatment, hardness values increased and the highest value of hardness (1015 ± 41 HV0.05) was achieved with the specimen coated in 10 g/L h-BN solution. In the electrochemical experiments, a reduction in corrosion resistance of the composite coatings was determined as a result of heat treatment. © 2019, Turkish Energy Nuclear and Mining Research Institute. Investigation of Porous Anodic Film Formation on Aa1050 by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy
    (WORLD SCIENTIFIC PUBL CO PTE LTD, 2020) Danışman, M.; Kocabaş, Mustafa; Curioni, M.; Cansever, N.
    In this study, the formation of porous Al2O3 on commercial 1050 aluminium alloy (AA1050) in 2 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4) electrolyte was investigated. Anodization was performed at 12 V and 15 V specimens for a charge density of 757 mC/cm(2) and 3231 mC/cm(2). The resulting oxides were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). According to analysis, a hexagonal oxide formation containing more than one nano pore was observed on the surface of the specimen. The structural properties of the porous oxide film were analyzed with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis and film-related features such as thickness of the porous and the barrier layer were obtained.

    Nickel Fluoride as a Surface Activation Agent for Electroless Nickel Coating of Anodized Aa1050 Aluminum Alloy
    (ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA, 2019) Kocabaş, Mustafa; Örnek, C.; Curioni, M.; Cansever, N.
    In this study, the use of nickel fluoride tetrahydrate (NiF2 center dot 4H(2)O) as a surface activator and sealant at the same time for the coating of electroless nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) on anodized aluminum alloy AA1050 is proposed. The usage of the activator resulted in more efficient deposition of Ni-P, improved adhesion properties, and increased wear and friction behavior as opposed to non-activated conditions. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal laser microscopy (CLM) analyses of ultramicrotome-cut cross sections of Ni-P coated specimens, surface-activated by NiF2 center dot 4H(2)O, revealed a more well-structured metal-coating interface as opposed to non-activated conditions.
