It is widely used in excavation work, mining, construction and many other industries. Excavation work in the mining and construction sectors is carried out for the purpose of extracting or displacing soil, rock or mineral layers for production and structural purposes. In this type of excavation work, different methods are used, such as drilling blasting, mechanized excavation and manual digging. There are many types of excavations, depending on the study area or the nature of the work done. Free excavations in the open, underground excavations, dam and hydroelectric power plant excavations, road excavations, tunnel excavations, stripping, cleaning and shaping excavations and channel excavations (trench excavations) are just some of these excavation types. Excavation work can pose serious risks to workers. These risks can be caused by a variety of factors, including dents, electric shocks, traffic accidents, poisoning, and injury. Excavation works are also one of the activities with the highest number of fatal work accidents in the construction area. For this reason, occupational safety measures are extremely important in excavation works. Since dangerous and risky situations can often be encountered in excavation works, serious consequences may occur if appropriate measures are not taken. Occupational health and safety measures in excavation works are of vital importance to protect the health and safety of workers, to minimize occupational accidents and to provide a safe environment at the work site. Study design/methodology/approach: Occupational health and safety studies are among the important issues of today. The importance of the issue is that it is directly related to loss of life and property. Knowing the dangers and risks that may occur related to the work done is extremely important in terms of taking precautions. In this study, possible hazards that may be encountered in excavation works, occupational accident statistics and precautions to be taken are presented. Findings: It is very important to provide workers with safe working areas at excavation sites and to monitor the use of personal protective equipment. Educating workers on occupational health and safety before and during excavation work enables them to recognize potential risks and hazards. The conscious work of workers plays an important role in protecting themselves and other co-workers from dangers. It is also vital that employers take and implement the necessary measures on occupational health and safety. Employers should promote the use of appropriate occupational safety equipment at excavation sites and ensure that this equipment is provided to workers. In addition, it is necessary to regularly review security measures and update them as necessary. Originality/value: In the construction and mining sectors, where excavation works are carried out intensively and the number of workplaces and employees is constantly increasing, many employees are injured and lost their lives in occupational accidents every year. In recent years, the development and change process that our country has been experiencing in the field of occupational health and safety for the prevention of occupational accidents and losses due to these accidents in these sectors are great importance. It is extremely important to work in this area with the aim of disseminating the culture of occupational health and safety.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessExcavationMechanized ExcavationDrilling-BlastingExcavation SafetyOccupational Health and Safety in Excavation WorksConference Object
