Search and rescue activities after the disaster and creation of temporary shelter areas until permanent settlements are built, are the main activities. Since temporary shelter areas are the areas where disaster victims continue their lives for a while, they should be areas where they can meet their basic needs and where the best possible living standards are offered. In general, temporary shelter areas should be protected against external hazards, where education, health and social needs can be met, and where people can live safely and comfortably. Temporary shelters are used for a longer period of time and gain importance after disasters with high destructive effects such as earthquakes. It is very important that temporary shelters are planned in advance and designed in accordance with the standards, and that infrastructure such as electricity, communication, water and sewage are provided for people to continue their lives. In this study, firstly, the deficiencies observed in temporary shelters after the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquake are presented. There are problems in various container and tent cities in the earthquake region due to climatic conditions and infrastructure. Problems such as waterlogging, fire, epidemics in the earthquake region were analyzed from news sources. Turkish regulations and international standards in the design of temporary shelters are analyzed comparatively. The issues that should be taken into consideration in the planning of temporary shelters are discussed within the framework of the problems observed in the earthquake zone, the problems experienced and various standards.eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDisasterEarthquakeTemporary SheltersPlanningDesignPlanning Principles and Practices of Temporary Shelter Areas After Natural DisastersConference Object
